Maintenance & updates
Shopware maintenance and updates: so your shop stays secure and up to date.
A shop is never finished: Shopware and plugins get new versions, security gaps get closed, and sometimes something stops working after a change. I keep your shop up to date, install updates safely and am there when things go wrong.
Support
What looking after your shop includes.
We decide together what I take on for your shop: as a single task or permanently with a custom maintenance contract.
One fixed contact.
You always talk directly to me, the developer. I know your shop, its plugins and customizations, and you don’t have to explain everything from the beginning each time.
- 01
Shopware and plugin updates
I install new versions of Shopware and your plugins after checking them: first in a copy, then in the live shop.
- 02
Security updates
I close security gaps promptly. Shopware publishes updates for this and, for older versions, a separate security plugin.
- 03
Error analysis
Something no longer works? I look for the cause in logs, plugins and customizations and fix it instead of just patching the symptoms.
- 04
Emergencies
The shop is down, or orders are not coming in? Then I help out in an emergency, even if we don’t work together yet.
Update process
How I install a Shopware update.
Every update follows the same order. The live shop is only updated once the copy runs without errors.
- 1
Check
I read Shopware’s notes on the new version and check every plugin, the theme and custom changes. If a plugin lacks a matching version, we clarify that first.
- 2
Create a copy
The update runs in a copy of your shop first, with your products, settings and plugins.
- 3
Test
In the copy I run through the important processes: home page, search, product page, cart, ordering with every payment method, emails and Administration.
- 4
Go live
Only when everything is right in the copy is the live shop updated, with a backup beforehand and a check afterwards.
For the copy there is my plugin Staging Manager: it copies the live shop into a test system right from the Administration, anonymizes customer data and intercepts emails.
More about Staging ManagerVersions
Patch, minor or major: what is in an update?
Not every update is the same size. The Shopware version number tells you how much checking it needs.
Patch update
The last digit of the version number changes. It brings bug fixes and security fixes, usually without any effect on plugins.
Minor update
The third digit changes. New features are added. Plugins usually keep working but should be checked.
Major update
The second digit changes. Shopware removes outdated technology, and plugins often need a new version. This calls for a thorough check.
Takeover
When you hand over an existing shop.
Are you changing service providers, or is your developer no longer available? Before I take over a shop, I get an overview.
Version and plugins.
Which Shopware version is running, which plugins are installed, and are there still updates for all of them?
Customizations.
What was changed in the theme and in the code, and is it cleanly inside plugins or directly in Shopware’s files?
Technology.
Does the PHP version fit, and do the scheduled tasks and the queue for background tasks run reliably?
Known problems.
What already isn’t running smoothly today? Error logs and your experience from daily business show where I start first.
Reviews
What shop owners say about updates and bug fixes.
The reviews are translated from German.
“After a short problem in connection with the Shopware Commercial app, the friendly support immediately identified the cause and quickly provided a fix.”
“With the migration to Shopware 6 we are of course using it again because of our previous experience. After initial difficulties due to the Shopware 6 custom layouts, an update was provided very quickly …”
FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
Your question isn’t listed? Give me a call or send me a short message about what you need.
How often should I update Shopware?
Security updates as soon as possible, smaller updates regularly so the gap to the current version doesn’t grow. We plan larger version jumps in advance, because plugins often need new versions for them.
What happens if a plugin stops working after the update?
That shows up in the copy, not in the live shop. Then there are three ways: a matching version from the vendor, a customization or another plugin. The update of the live shop waits until then.
What is included in a maintenance contract?
We decide that together to fit your shop: for example regular updates, security updates, error analysis and one fixed contact.
Do I need a test environment for every update?
I install every update in a copy first. Even a small update can clash with a plugin or a customization, and the copy reveals that before your customers notice.
Do you also help in an emergency if we don’t work together yet?
Yes. Call me or write to me what isn’t working. Helpful are the address of your shop, the Shopware version and what was changed most recently.
Do you also take care of hosting and servers?
Hosting and servers are handled by partners who specialize in them. I coordinate with your hosting provider, for example when an update needs a new PHP version.
